Don’t let the Mitzvah mousies fool you into thinking they are ‘just mice.’ Jill Liflander’s “Love, Jilly and the Mousies” exhibition is a delicate explosion of life. Each piece is an exploration of what it means to be present in our world, literally feeling in color the intense emotions of the pandemic, the excitement of being back out in the world and experiencing the joy and confusion that comes from living and caring about each other.

“Love, Jilly and the Mousies,” or as I affectionately call it "Mouseland", is a body of work that has completely captured my imagination. When I am in pain, it comforts me. When I feel despair, it gives me hope. When I am angry, it offers peace. At first, being with these drawings, being in Mouseland, was a little like being in the Matrix for me: either you're in or you're out, either you have faith or not. But now, when I look at these infinitely detailed, profoundly joyful, wholesomely heartfelt portraits of life, I see how what is offered here is a kind of practice, a way of being. Humbled by the beauty here, I wake every day now, striving to practice what is drawn here, inspired by the Mousies to peace and love my neighbor.”

Entering into Jill's world of mice, I was transported. This microcosm is what we need in order to gain perspective at a time when our lives may feel particularly vulnerable. To get lost in the detail of the leaves, trees and personalities of the mice was so refreshing. The simple day to day activities of the mice are an important reminder of what we as humans need to get back to in a world where we are moving away from connectivity to ourselves and others. Jill’s talent as an artist, a humanitarian and as a guiding light is shining bright in this mouse-y showcase!”
