What Does Peace Look Like?
Chapter X
In December 2023, for the first time in thirty years, I traveled to Israel. I needed to see my daughter, who was living in Israel for a gap year. I scheduled two bookend weekends visiting with family, and arranged to volunteer on a kibbutz in the North. Even though traveling to Israel during a war felt crazy, it felt even more crazy not to go. My Jewish soul was roaring inside.
I yearn for peace every single day of my life; my art is a prayer for peace. It sometimes feels impossible to hold on to the purity of our yearnings and our deepest love for peace when hatred and antisemitism seems to be everywhere we turn. My artwork is how I fight back against despair, lean into hope, and shine Jewish light into the world.
